Jesus Sends Out the Seventy-Two
1 After this the Lord chose another seventy-two men and sent them out two by two, to go ahead of him to every town and place where he himself was about to go. 2 He said to them, “There is a large harvest, but few workers to gather it in. Pray to the owner of the harvest that he will send out workers to gather in his harvest. 3 Go! I am sending you like lambs among wolves. 4 Don't take a purse or a beggar's bag or shoes; don't stop to greet anyone on the road. 5 Whenever you go into a house, first say, ‘Peace be with this house.’ 6 If someone who is peace-loving lives there, let your greeting of peace remain on that person; if not, take back your greeting of peace. 7 Stay in that same house, eating and drinking whatever they offer you, for workers should be given their pay. Don't move around from one house to another. 8 Whenever you go into a town and are made welcome, eat what is set before you, 9 heal the sick in that town, and say to the people there, ‘The Kingdom of God has come near you.’ 10 But whenever you go into a town and are not welcomed, go out in the streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust from your town that sticks to our feet we wipe off against you. But remember that the Kingdom of God has come near you!’ 12 I assure you that on the Judgment Day God will show more mercy to Sodom than to that town!
The Unbelieving Towns
(Matthew 11.20-24)13 “How terrible it will be for you, Chorazin! How terrible for you too, Bethsaida! If the miracles which were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, the people there would have long ago sat down, put on sackcloth, and sprinkled ashes on themselves, to show that they had turned from their sins! 14 God will show more mercy on the Judgment Day to Tyre and Sidon than to you. 15 And as for you, Capernaum! Did you want to lift yourself up to heaven? You will be thrown down to hell!”
16 Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; and whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.”
The Return of the Seventy-Two
17 The seventy-two men came back in great joy. “Lord,” they said, “even the demons obeyed us when we gave them a command in your name!”
18 Jesus answered them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Listen! I have given you authority, so that you can walk on snakes and scorpions and overcome all the power of the Enemy, and nothing will hurt you. 20 But don't be glad because the evil spirits obey you; rather be glad because your names are written in heaven.”
Jesus Rejoices
(Matthew 11.25-27Matthew 13.16Matthew 17)21 At that time Jesus was filled with joy by the Holy Spirit and said, “Father, Lord of heaven and earth! I thank you because you have shown to the unlearned what you have hidden from the wise and learned. Yes, Father, this was how you were pleased to have it happen.
22 “My Father has given me all things. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”
23 Then Jesus turned to the disciples and said to them privately, “How fortunate you are to see the things you see! 24 I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see, but they could not, and to hear what you hear, but they did not.”
The Parable of the Good Samaritan
25 A teacher of the Law came up and tried to trap Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to receive eternal life?”
26 Jesus answered him, “What do the Scriptures say? How do you interpret them?”
27 The man answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind’; and ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’”
28 “You are right,” Jesus replied; “do this and you will live.”
29 But the teacher of the Law wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?”
30 Jesus answered, “There was once a man who was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho when robbers attacked him, stripped him, and beat him up, leaving him half dead. 31 It so happened that a priest was going down that road; but when he saw the man, he walked on by on the other side. 32 In the same way a Levite also came there, went over and looked at the man, and then walked on by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan who was traveling that way came upon the man, and when he saw him, his heart was filled with pity. 34 He went over to him, poured oil and wine on his wounds and bandaged them; then he put the man on his own animal and took him to an inn, where he took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Take care of him,’ he told the innkeeper, ‘and when I come back this way, I will pay you whatever else you spend on him.’”
36 And Jesus concluded, “In your opinion, which one of these three acted like a neighbor toward the man attacked by the robbers?”
37 The teacher of the Law answered, “The one who was kind to him.”
Jesus replied, “You go, then, and do the same.”
Jesus Visits Martha and Mary
38 As Jesus and his disciples went on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha welcomed him in her home. 39 She had a sister named Mary, who sat down at the feet of the Lord and listened to his teaching. 40 Martha was upset over all the work she had to do, so she came and said, “Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to come and help me!”
41 The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha! You are worried and troubled over so many things, 42 but just one is needed. Mary has chosen the right thing, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Rozesłanie siedemdziesięciu dwóch uczniów
1 A potem wyznaczył Pan innych, siedemdziesięciu dwóch, i rozesłał ich po dwóch przed sobą do każdego miasta i miejscowości, dokąd sam zamierzał się udać.
2 I powiedział im: Żniwo wprawdzie wielkie, ale robotników mało. Proście więc Pana żniwa, aby wysłał robotników na żniwo swoje.
3 Idźcie! Oto posyłam was jako jagnięta między wilki.
4 Nie noście z sobą sakiewki ani torby, ani sandałów; i nikogo w drodze nie pozdrawiajcie.
5 A gdy do jakiegoś domu wejdziecie, najpierw mówcie: Pokój domowi temu.
6 A jeśli tam będzie syn pokoju, spocznie na nim pokój wasz, a jeśli nie, wróci do was.
7 W domu tym pozostańcie, jedząc i pijąc to, co u nich jest; godzien bowiem robotnik zapłaty swojej. Nie przenoście się z domu do domu.
8 A jeśli do jakiegoś miasta wejdziecie i przyjmą was, spożywajcie to, co wam podadzą.
9 I uzdrawiajcie w nim chorych, i mówcie do nich: Przybliżyło się do was Królestwo Boże.
10 Jeśli zaś do któregoś miasta wejdziecie, a nie przyjmą was, wyjdźcie na ulicę i mówcie:
11 Nawet proch z miasta waszego, który przylgnął do nóg naszych, strząsamy na was, lecz wiedzcie, iż przybliżyło się Królestwo Boże.
12 Powiadam wam, iż w dniu owym lżej będzie Sodomie niż owemu miastu.
Jezus grozi miastom galilejskim
(Mat. 11,20—24)13 Biada tobie, Chorazynie, biada tobie, Betsaido; bo gdyby w Tyrze i Sydonie działy się te cuda, które u was się stały, dawno by w worze i popiele siedząc, pokutowały.
14 Toteż lżej będzie Tyrowi i Sydonowi na sądzie aniżeli wam.
15 A ty, Kafarnaum, czy aż do nieba wywyższone będziesz? Nie! Aż do piekła zstąpisz.
16 A kto was słucha, mnie słucha, a kto wami gardzi, mną gardzi. A kto mną gardzi, gardzi tym, który mnie posłał.
Powrót siedemdziesięciu dwóch uczniów
17 Powróciło tedy owych siedemdziesięciu dwóch z radością, mówiąc: Panie, i demony są nam podległe w imieniu twoim.
18 Rzekł więc do nich: Widziałem, jak szatan, niby błyskawica, spadł z nieba,
19 Oto dałem wam moc, abyście deptali po wężach i skorpionach i po wszelkiej potędze nieprzyjacielskiej, a nic wam nie zaszkodzi.
20 Wszakże nie z tego się radujcie, iż duchy są wam podległe, radujcie się raczej z tego, iż imiona wasze w niebie są zapisane.
Modlitwa dziękczynna Jezusa
(Mat. 11,25—27Mat. 13,16—17)21 W owej godzinie rozradował się w Duchu Świętym i rzekł: Wysławiam cię, Ojcze, Panie nieba i ziemi, że zakryłeś te rzeczy przed mądrymi i roztropnymi, a objawiłeś je prostaczkom; zaprawdę, Ojcze, bo tak się tobie upodobało.
22 Wszystko jest mi przekazane przez Ojca mojego i nikt nie wie kto to Syn, jak tylko Ojciec, a kto Ojciec, jak tylko Syn, i ten, komu Syn zechce to objawić.
23 I zwróciwszy się na osobności do uczniów, rzekł: Błogosławione oczy, które widzą, co wy widzicie.
24 Powiadam wam bowiem, iż wielu proroków i królów chciało widzieć, co wy widzicie, a nie ujrzeli, i słyszeć, co wy słyszycie, a nie usłyszeli.
Jak dostąpić żywota wiecznego
(Mat. 22,34—40Mar. 12,28—31)25 A oto pewien uczony w zakonie wystąpił i wystawiając go na próbę, rzekł: Nauczycielu, co mam czynić, aby dostąpić żywota wiecznego?
26 On zaś rzekł do niego: Co napisano w zakonie? Jak czytasz?
27 A ten, odpowiadając, rzekł: Będziesz miłował Pana, Boga swego, z całego serca swego i z całej duszy swojej, i z całej myśli swojej, i z całej siły swojej, a bliźniego swego, jak siebie samego.
28 Rzekł mu więc: Dobrze odpowiedziałeś, czyń to, a będziesz żył.
Przypowieść o miłosiernym Samarytaninie
29 On zaś, chcąc się usprawiedliwić, rzekł do Jezusa: A kto jest bliźnim moim?
30 A Jezus, nawiązując do tego, rzekł: Pewien człowiek szedł z Jerozolimy do Jerycha i wpadł w ręce zbójców, którzy go obrabowali, poranili i odeszli, zostawiając go na pół umarłego.
31 Przypadkiem szedł tą drogą jakiś kapłan i zobaczywszy go, przeszedł mimo.
32 Podobnie i Lewita, gdy przyszedł na to miejsce i zobaczył go, przeszedł mimo.
33 Pewien Samarytanin zaś, podróżując tędy, podjechał do niego i ujrzawszy, ulitował się nad nim.
34 I podszedłszy opatrzył rany jego, zalewając je oliwą i winem, po czym wsadził go na swoje bydlę, zawiózł do gospody i opiekował się nim.
35 A nazajutrz dobył dwa denary, dał je gospodarzowi i rzekł: Opiekuj się nim, a co wydasz ponad to, ja w drodze powrotnej oddam ci.
36 Który z tych trzech, zdaniem twoim, był bliźnim temu, który wpadł w ręce zbójców?
37 A on rzekł: Ten, który się ulitował nad nim. Rzekł mu Jezus: Idź, i ty czyń podobnie.
Marta i Maria
38 A gdy szli, wstąpił do pewnej wioski; a pewna niewiasta, imieniem Marta, przyjęła go do domu.
39 Ta miała siostrę, a na imię jej było Maria, która usiadłszy u nóg Pana, słuchała jego słowa.
40 Marta zaś krzątała się koło różnej posługi; a przystąpiwszy, rzekła: Panie, czy nie dbasz o to, że siostra moja pozostawiła mnie samą, abym pełniła posługi? Powiedz jej więc, aby mi pomogła.
41 A odpowiadając rzekł do niej Pan: Marto, Marto, troszczysz się i kłopoczesz o wiele rzeczy;
42 Niewiele zaś potrzeba, bo tylko jednego; Maria bowiem dobrą cząstkę wybrała, która nie będzie jej odjęta.
