Jerusalem's Sin and Redemption
1 Jerusalem is doomed, that corrupt, rebellious city that oppresses its own people. 2 It has not listened to the Lord or accepted his discipline. It has not put its trust in the Lord or asked for his help. 3 Its officials are like roaring lions; its judges are like hungry wolves, too greedy to leave a bone until morning. 4 The prophets are irresponsible and treacherous; the priests defile what is sacred, and twist the law of God to their own advantage. 5 But the Lord is still in the city; he does what is right and never what is wrong. Every morning without fail, he brings justice to his people. And yet the unrighteous people there keep on doing wrong and are not ashamed.
6 The Lord says, “I have wiped out whole nations; I have destroyed their cities and left their walls and towers in ruins. The cities are deserted; the streets are empty—no one is left. 7 I thought that then my people would have reverence for me and accept my discipline, that they would never forget the lesson I taught them. But soon they were behaving as badly as ever.
8 “Just wait,” the Lord says. “Wait for the day when I rise to accuse the nations. I have made up my mind to gather nations and kingdoms in order to let them feel the force of my anger. The whole earth will be destroyed by the fire of my fury.
9 “Then I will change the people of the nations, and they will pray to me alone and not to other gods. They will all obey me. 10 Even from distant Ethiopia my scattered people will bring offerings to me. 11 At that time you, my people, will no longer need to be ashamed that you rebelled against me. I will remove everyone who is proud and arrogant, and you will never again rebel against me on my sacred hill. 12 I will leave there a humble and lowly people, who will come to me for help. 13 The people of Israel who survive will do no wrong to anyone, tell no lies, nor try to deceive. They will be prosperous and secure, afraid of no one.”
A Song of Joy
14 Sing and shout for joy, people of Israel!
Rejoice with all your heart, Jerusalem!
15 The Lord has stopped your punishment;
he has removed all your enemies.
The Lord, the king of Israel, is with you;
there is no reason now to be afraid.
16 The time is coming when they will say to Jerusalem,
“Do not be afraid, city of Zion!
Do not let your hands hang limp!
17 The Lord your God is with you;
his power gives you victory.
The Lord will take delight in you,
and in his love he will give you new life.
He will sing and be joyful over you,
18 as joyful as people at a festival.”
The Lord says,
“I have ended the threat of doom
and taken away your disgrace.
19 The time is coming!
I will punish your oppressors;
I will rescue all the lame
and bring the exiles home.
I will turn their shame to honor,
and all the world will praise them.
20 The time is coming!
I will bring your scattered people home;
I will make you famous throughout the world
and make you prosperous once again.”
The Lord has spoken.
Pecado y redención de Jerusalén
1 ¡Ay de la ciudad rebelde, contaminada y opresora!
2 No quiso escuchar la voz de su Dios, ni recibir su corrección. No confió en el Señor ni se acercó a él.
3 En sus calles, sus magnates parecen leones rugientes; sus jueces son lobos nocturnos que no dejan un solo hueso para el día siguiente.
4 Sus profetas son irresponsables y traicioneros; sus sacerdotes contaminan el santuario y falsean la ley.
5 En sus calles, el Señor es justo y no hace iniquidad; por la mañana saca a luz su juicio, y nunca faltará. Pero el perverso no conoce la vergüenza.
6 «Yo permití que las naciones fueran destruidas, y que sus habitaciones quedaran asoladas; yo dejé sus calles desiertas, hasta que no quedó quien pasara por ellas; sus ciudades quedaron asoladas, hasta que no quedó nadie, ni un solo habitante.
7 »Yo me dije: “Seguramente esta ciudad me temerá; aceptará ser corregida, y no será destruida su habitación por todo aquello por lo que la castigué.” Pero ellos se apresuraron a corromper todos sus hechos.
8 »Por lo tanto, espérenme hasta el día en que me levante para juzgarlos; porque he decidido reunir a las naciones y juntar los reinos para derramar sobre ellos todo mi enojo y el ardor de mi ira. ¡El fuego de mi celo consumirá toda la tierra!»
—Palabra del Señor.9 «Cuando llegue el momento, devolveré a los pueblos la pureza de labios, para que todos invoquen mi nombre y me sirvan con espíritu unánime.
10 De allende los ríos de Etiopía mi pueblo esparcido vendrá a adorarme y me traerá ofrendas.
11 »Cuando llegue ese día, no tendrás que avergonzarte por ninguna de tus rebeliones contra mí, porque yo quitaré de en medio de ti a los que se alegran por tu soberbia, y nunca más volverás a envanecerte en mi santo monte.
12 En medio de ti dejaré a un pueblo humilde y pobre, el cual confiará en mi nombre.
13 El remanente de Israel no cometerá injusticias ni dirá mentiras, ni habrá entre ellos gente mentirosa, porque yo los cuidaré como un pastor, y ellos dormirán sin que nadie los atemorice.»
14 ¡Canta, hija de Sión!
¡Da voces de júbilo, Israel!
¡Regocíjate de todo corazón, hija de Jerusalén!
15 ¡El Señor ha apartado tus juicios,
y ha expulsado a tus enemigos!
¡El Señor es el Rey de Israel,
y está en medio de ti!
¡Nunca más verás el mal!
16 Cuando llegue el momento, se dirá a Jerusalén: «No temas, Sión; que no se debiliten tus manos.
17 El Señor está en medio de ti, y te salvará con su poder; por ti se regocijará y se alegrará; por amor guardará silencio, y con cánticos se regocijará por ti.»
18 «Yo reuniré a tus habitantes, a los que por tanto tiempo han tenido que cargar con tu oprobio.
19 Cuando llegue el momento, perseguiré a todos tus opresores; salvaré a las ovejas que cojean e iré en busca de las que perdieron el camino. Yo haré que ustedes sean motivo de alabanza, y que gocen de renombre en toda la tierra.
20 »Cuando llegue el momento, yo mismo los haré venir. Cuando llegue el momento yo mismo los reuniré. Cuando ponga fin a su cautiverio, lo cual ustedes mismos verán, los haré gozar de renombre y haré que sean motivo de alabanza entre todos los pueblos de la tierra.»
