The Duties of the Levite Clan of Kohath
1 The Lord told Moses 2 to take a census of the Levite clan of Kohath by subclans and families, 3 and to register all the men between the ages of thirty and fifty who were qualified to work in the Tent of the Lord's presence. 4 Their service involves the most holy things.
5 The Lord gave Moses the following instructions. When it is time to break camp, Aaron and his sons shall enter the Tent, take down the curtain in front of the Covenant Box, and cover the Box with it. 6 They shall put a fine leather cover over it, spread a cloth of solid blue on top, and then insert the carrying poles.
7 They shall spread a blue cloth over the table for the bread offered to the Lord and put on it the dishes, the incense bowls, the offering bowls, and the jars for the wine offering. There shall always be bread on the table. 8 They shall spread a red cloth over all of this, put a fine leather cover over it, and then insert the carrying poles.
9 They shall take a blue cloth and cover the lampstand, with its lamps, tongs, trays, and all the olive oil containers. 10 They shall wrap it and all its equipment in a fine leather cover and place it on a carrying frame.
11 Next they shall spread a blue cloth over the gold altar, put a fine leather cover over it, and then insert the carrying poles. 12 They shall take all the utensils used in the Holy Place, wrap them in a blue cloth, put a fine leather cover over them, and place them on a carrying frame. 13 They shall remove the greasy ashes from the altar and spread a purple cloth over it. 14 They shall put on it all the equipment used in the service at the altar: fire pans, hooks, shovels, and basins. Then they shall put a fine leather cover over it and insert the carrying poles. 15 When it is time to break camp, the clan of Kohath shall come to carry the sacred objects only after Aaron and his sons have finished covering them and all their equipment. The Kohath clan must not touch the sacred objects, or they will die.
These are the responsibilities of the Kohath clan whenever the Tent is moved.
16 Eleazar son of Aaron the priest shall be responsible for the whole Tent and for the oil for the lamps, the incense, the grain offerings, the anointing oil, and everything else in the Tent that has been consecrated to the Lord.
17 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 18 “Do not let the clan of Kohath 19 be killed by coming near these most sacred objects. To prevent this from happening, Aaron and his sons shall go in and assign each man his task and tell him what to carry. 20 But if the Kohathites enter the Tent and see the priests preparing the sacred objects for moving, they will die.”
The Duties of the Levite Clan of Gershon
21 The Lord told Moses 22 to take a census of the Levite clan of Gershon by subclans and families, 23 and to register all the men between the ages of thirty and fifty who were qualified to work in the Tent of the Lord's presence. 24 They shall be responsible for carrying the following objects: 25 the Tent, its inner cover, its outer cover, the fine leather cover on top of it, the curtain for the entrance, 26 the curtains and ropes for the court that is around the Tent and the altar, the curtains for the entrance of the court, and all the fittings used in setting up these objects. They shall perform all the tasks required for these things. 27 Moses and Aaron shall see to it that the Gershonites perform all the duties and carry everything that Aaron and his sons assign to them. 28 These are the responsibilities of the Gershon clan in the Tent; they shall carry them out under the direction of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.
The Duties of the Levite Clan of Merari
29 The Lord told Moses to take a census of the Levite clan of Merari by subclans and families, 30 and to register all the men between the ages of thirty and fifty who were qualified to work in the Tent of the Lord's presence. 31 They shall be responsible for carrying the frames, bars, posts, and bases of the Tent, 32 and the posts, bases, pegs, and ropes of the court around the Tent, with all the fittings used in setting them up. Each man will be responsible for carrying specific items. 33 These are the responsibilities of the Merari clan in their service in the Tent; they shall carry them out under the direction of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.
The Census of the Levites
34-48 Following the Lord's command, Moses, Aaron, and the leaders of the community took a census of the three Levite clans, Kohath, Gershon, and Merari. They did this by subclans and families and registered all the men between the ages of thirty and fifty who were qualified to work in the Tent of the Lord's presence, as follows:

49 Each man was registered as the Lord had commanded Moses; and at the command of the Lord given through Moses, each man was assigned responsibility for his task of serving or carrying.

2 «De entre los hijos de Leví cuenten a los hijos de Coat por sus familias y según las familias de sus antepasados,
3 a todos los que tengan más de treinta años, y hasta cincuenta años de edad, y anótenlos en los grupos que servirán en el tabernáculo de reunión.
4 Este va a ser el oficio de los hijos de Coat en el tabernáculo de reunión, en el lugar santísimo:
5 Cuando el campamento haya de mudarse, Aarón y sus hijos vendrán y desarmarán el velo de la tienda, y con él cubrirán el arca del testimonio;
6 y sobre ella pondrán la cubierta de pieles de delfín, y extenderán un paño todo de azul, y le pondrán sus varas.
7 Sobre la mesa de la proposición extenderán un paño azul, y sobre ella pondrán los platones, las cucharas, las copas y los tazones para las libaciones; también sobre ella estará el pan continuo.
8 Extenderán sobre ella un paño carmesí, y lo cubrirán con la cubierta de pieles de delfín; y le pondrán sus varas.
9 Tomarán un paño azul y cubrirán el candelero del alumbrado, sus lamparillas, sus despabiladeras, sus platillos, y todos los utensilios del aceite con que se sirve,
10 y lo pondrán con todos sus utensilios en una cubierta de pieles de delfín, y lo colocarán sobre unas parihuelas.
11 Sobre el altar de oro extenderán un paño azul, y lo cubrirán con la cubierta de pieles de delfín, y le pondrán sus varas.
12 Y tomarán todos los utensilios del servicio que se usan en el santuario, y los pondrán en un paño azul, y los cubrirán con una cubierta de pieles de delfín, y los colocarán sobre unas parihuelas.
13 Quitarán la ceniza del altar y extenderán sobre él un paño de púrpura;
14 pondrán sobre él todos los instrumentos de que se sirve, es decir, las paletas, los garfios, los braseros y los tazones, y todos los utensilios del altar; extenderán sobre él la cubierta de pieles de delfín, y le pondrán las varas.
15 Y cuando Aarón y sus hijos acaben de cubrir el santuario y todos sus utensilios, y haya de mudarse el campamento, vendrán después los hijos de Coat para llevarlos; pero no deberán tocar ninguna cosa santa, para que no mueran.
»Estas serán las tareas de los hijos de Coat en el tabernáculo de reunión.
16 Eleazar, hijo del sacerdote Aarón, estará a cargo del aceite del alumbrado, del incienso aromático, de la ofrenda continua y del aceite de la unción; es decir, estará a cargo de todo el tabernáculo y de todo lo que está en él, así como del santuario y de sus utensilios.»
17 El Señor habló con Moisés y Aarón, y les dijo:
18 «No hagan que la tribu de las familias de Coat sea eliminada de entre los levitas.
19 Para que sigan viviendo y no mueran cuando se acerquen al lugar santísimo, deben hacer lo siguiente: Aarón y sus hijos vendrán y les darán a cada uno su oficio y su cargo.
20 Y cuando cubran las cosas santas, no deben entrar para ver; de lo contrario, serán condenados a muerte.»
21 El Señor habló con Moisés, y le dijo:
22 «Levanta también un censo de los hijos de Guersón, según las familias de sus antepasados.
23 Cuenta a todos los varones mayores de treinta años y hasta cincuenta, es decir, todos los que entran en grupos para servir en el tabernáculo de reunión.
24 El oficio de las familias de Guersón para ministrar y llevar será el siguiente:
25 Llevarán las cortinas del tabernáculo, el tabernáculo de reunión, su cubierta, la cubierta de pieles de delfín que va encima del tabernáculo, la cortina de la entrada del tabernáculo de reunión,
26 las cortinas del atrio, la cortina de la puerta del atrio, que está cerca de este y del altar alrededor, sus cuerdas, todos los instrumentos de su servicio, y todo lo que se hará para ellos. Ese será su servicio.
27 Todo el ministerio de los hijos de Guersón, en todos sus cargos y en todo su servicio, será según lo ordenen Aarón y sus hijos. Ustedes les encomendarán el cuidado de todos sus cargos.
28 Este será el servicio de las familias de los hijos de Guersón en el tabernáculo de reunión. Su servicio estará bajo la dirección de Itamar, hijo del sacerdote Aarón.
29 »Haz también un censo de los hijos de Merari, según las familias de sus antepasados.
30 Cuenta a todos los varones mayores de treinta años, y hasta cincuenta años, es decir, a todos los que entran en grupos para servir en el tabernáculo de reunión.
31 Las obligaciones de su cargo para todo su servicio en el tabernáculo de reunión serán las siguientes: Llevar las tablas del tabernáculo, sus barras, sus columnas y sus bases,
32 las columnas del atrio alrededor y sus bases, y sus estacas y cuerdas, con todos sus instrumentos y todo su servicio. Consignarás por nombre todos los utensilios que ellos deben transportar.
33 El servicio de las familias de los hijos de Merari para todo su ministerio en el tabernáculo de reunión, estará bajo la dirección de Itamar, hijo del sacerdote Aarón.»
34 Moisés y Aarón y los jefes de la congregación levantaron el censo de los hijos de Coat según las familias de sus antepasados,
35 y contaron a los varones mayores de treinta años de edad, y hasta los de cincuenta años, es decir, a todos los que entraban en grupos para ministrar en el tabernáculo de reunión.
36 Los varones contados, por sus familias, fueron dos mil setecientos cincuenta.
37 Estos fueron todos los varones contados de las familias de Coat, que ministran en el tabernáculo de reunión. Moisés y Aarón los contaron, tal y como el Señor lo ordenó por medio de Moisés.
38 Los varones contados de los hijos de Guersón, según las familias de sus antepasados,
39 mayores de treinta años y hasta de cincuenta años, es decir, todos los que entran en grupos para ministrar en el tabernáculo de reunión,
40 fueron dos mil seiscientos treinta los contados por sus familias, según las familias de sus antepasados.
41 Estos son todos los varones contados de las familias de los hijos de Guersón, los cuales ministran en el tabernáculo de reunión, y que Moisés y Aarón contaron por mandato del Señor.
42 Los varones contados de las familias de los hijos de Merari, según las familias de sus antepasados,
43 es decir, todos los mayores de treinta años y hasta de cincuenta años, que entran en grupos para ministrar en el tabernáculo de reunión,
44 fueron tres mil doscientos, contados por sus familias.
45 Estos fueron los varones de las familias de los hijos de Merari, contados por Moisés y Aarón según lo ordenó el Señor por medio de Moisés.
46 Todos los varones levitas que Moisés y Aarón y los jefes de Israel contaron según las familias de sus antepasados,
47 mayores de treinta años y hasta de cincuenta, es decir, todos los que entraban para ministrar en el servicio y estar a cargo de alguna tarea en el tabernáculo de reunión,
48 fueron ocho mil quinientos ochenta.
49 Cada uno de ellos fue contado según su oficio y según su cargo, tal y como el Señor lo ordenó por medio de Moisés, que los contó tal y como le había sido ordenado.
