True Worship
1 The Almighty God, the Lord, speaks;
he calls to the whole earth from east to west.
2 God shines from Zion,
the city perfect in its beauty.
3 Our God is coming, but not in silence;
a raging fire is in front of him,
a furious storm around him.
4 He calls heaven and earth as witnesses
to see him judge his people.
5 He says, “Gather my faithful people to me,
those who made a covenant with me by offering a sacrifice.”
6 The heavens proclaim that God is righteous,
that he himself is judge.
7 “Listen, my people, and I will speak;
I will testify against you, Israel.
I am God, your God.
8 I do not reprimand you because of your sacrifices
and the burnt offerings you always bring me.
9 And yet I do not need bulls from your farms
or goats from your flocks;
10 all the animals in the forest are mine
and the cattle on thousands of hills.
11 All the wild birds are mine
and all living things in the fields.
12 “If I were hungry, I would not ask you for food,
for the world and everything in it is mine.
13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls
or drink the blood of goats?
14 Let the giving of thanks be your sacrifice to God,
and give the Almighty all that you promised.
15 Call to me when trouble comes;
I will save you,
and you will praise me.”
16 But God says to the wicked,
“Why should you recite my commandments?
Why should you talk about my covenant?
17 You refuse to let me correct you;
you reject my commands.
18 You become the friend of every thief you see,
and you associate with adulterers.
19 “You are always ready to speak evil;
you never hesitate to tell lies.
20 You are ready to accuse your own relatives
and to find fault with them.
21 You have done all this, and I have said nothing,
so you thought that I am like you.
But now I reprimand you
and make the matter plain to you.
22 “Listen to this, you that ignore me,
or I will destroy you,
and there will be no one to save you.
23 Giving thanks is the sacrifice that honors me,
and I will surely save all who obey me.”
Dios, el Juez supremo
Salmo de Asaf.
1 El Señor, el Dios de dioses, ha hablado;
de este a oeste ha convocado a la tierra.
2 Desde Sión, la ciudad bella y perfecta,
Dios deja ver su esplendor.
3 Nuestro Dios viene, pero no en silencio.
Un fuego consumidor lo precede;
una poderosa tempestad lo rodea.
4 Convoca a los cielos y a la tierra,
pues viene a juzgar a su pueblo.
5 «Reúnan a mi pueblo santo,
a los que han hecho un pacto conmigo
y me han ofrecido un sacrificio.»
6 Y los cielos declaran su justicia;
declaran que Dios mismo es el juez.
7 «Escucha, Israel, pueblo mío;
voy a hablar y a testificar contra ti.
Yo soy Dios. Yo soy tu Dios.
8 No voy a reprenderte por tus sacrificios,
ni por los holocaustos que siempre me ofreces;
9 no voy a tomar ningún becerro de tu casa,
ni ningún macho cabrío de tus apriscos,
10 pues míos son todos los animales del bosque,
¡los miles de animales que hay en las colinas!
11 Mías son todas las aves de los montes;
mío es todo lo que se mueve en los campos.
12 »Si yo tuviera hambre, no te lo diría,
pues el mundo y su plenitud me pertenecen.
13 ¿Acaso me alimento con carne de toros,
o bebo sangre de machos cabríos?
14 Yo soy el Dios altísimo;
en vez de sacrificios, ofréceme alabanzas
y cúmpleme todos los votos que me hagas.
15 Invócame en el día de la angustia;
yo te libraré, y tú me honrarás.»
16 Pero al malvado Dios le dice:
«¿Qué tienes tú que ver con mis leyes?
¿Por qué te atreves a hablar de mi pacto?
17 ¡Si tú aborreces la corrección,
y echas en saco roto mis palabras!
18 Si ves un ladrón, corres a su encuentro;
¡eres gran amigo de los adúlteros!
19 Para el mal, no mides tus palabras;
con tu lengua urdes toda clase de engaños.
20 En los tribunales, hablas contra tu hermano;
contra tu propio hermano profieres infamias.
21 Todo esto has hecho, y yo me he callado;
habrás pensado que yo soy como tú.
Pero ahora voy a reprenderte;
voy a exhibir todas tus maldades.
22 »Ustedes, los que se olvidan de mí,
entiendan bien esto;
no vaya a ser que los despedace
y no haya quien los libre de mí.
23 El que me ofrece alabanzas, me honra;
al que enmiende su camino, yo lo salvaré.»
