The Covenant Box Is Brought to Jerusalem
(1 Chronicles 13.1-141 15.25—16.6,43)1 Once more David called together the best soldiers in Israel, a total of thirty thousand men, 2 and led them to Baalah in Judah, in order to bring from there God's Covenant Box, bearing the name of the Lord Almighty, whose throne is above the winged creatures. 3 They took it from Abinadab's home on the hill and placed it on a new cart. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were guiding the cart, 4 with Ahio walking in front. 5 David and all the Israelites were dancing and singing with all their might to honor the Lord. They were playing harps, lyres, drums, rattles, and cymbals.
6 As they came to the threshing place of Nacon, the oxen stumbled, and Uzzah reached out and took hold of the Covenant Box. 7 At once the Lord God became angry with Uzzah and killed him because of his irreverence. Uzzah died there beside the Covenant Box, 8 and so that place has been called Perez Uzzah ever since. David was furious because the Lord had punished Uzzah in anger.
9 Then David was afraid of the Lord and said, “How can I take the Covenant Box with me now?” 10 So he decided not to take it with him to Jerusalem; instead, he turned off the road and took it to the house of Obed Edom, a native of the city of Gath. 11 It stayed there three months, and the Lord blessed Obed Edom and his family.
12 King David heard that because of the Covenant Box the Lord had blessed Obed Edom's family and all that he had; so he got the Covenant Box from Obed's house to take it to Jerusalem with a great celebration. 13 After the men carrying the Covenant Box had gone six steps, David had them stop while he offered the Lord a sacrifice of a bull and a fattened calf. 14 David, wearing only a linen cloth around his waist, danced with all his might to honor the Lord. 15 And so he and all the Israelites took the Covenant Box up to Jerusalem with shouts of joy and the sound of trumpets.
16 As the Box was being brought into the city, Michal, Saul's daughter, looked out of the window and saw King David dancing and jumping around in the sacred dance, and she was disgusted with him. 17 They brought the Box and put it in its place in the Tent that David had set up for it. Then he offered sacrifices and fellowship offerings to the Lord. 18 When he had finished offering the sacrifices, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord Almighty 19 and distributed food to them all. He gave each man and woman in Israel a loaf of bread, a piece of roasted meat, and some raisins. Then everyone went home.
20 Afterward, when David went home to greet his family, Michal came out to meet him. “The king of Israel made a big name for himself today!” she said. “He exposed himself like a fool in the sight of the servant women of his officials!”
21 David answered, “I was dancing to honor the Lord, who chose me instead of your father and his family to make me the leader of his people Israel. And I will go on dancing to honor the Lord, 22 and will disgrace myself even more. You may think I am nothing, but those women will think highly of me!”
23 Michal, Saul's daughter, never had any children.
David intenta llevar el arca a Jerusalén
(1 Cr 13.5-14)1 David volvió a reunir a todos los mejores soldados de Israel, que sumaban treinta mil.
2 Partió de Baalá de Judá con todo su ejército, para trasladar de allí el arca de Dios, donde se invocaba el nombre del Señor de los ejércitos, que habita entre los querubines.
3 Sacaron el arca de Dios de la casa de Abinadab, que estaba sobre una colina, y la pusieron sobre un carro nuevo al que iban guiando Uzá y Ajió, los hijos de Abinadab.
4 Cuando sacaron de la casa de Abinadab el arca de Dios, Ajió iba delante del carro,
5 mientras que David y todo el pueblo danzaban alegremente delante del Señor, al son de instrumentos musicales de madera de haya, y de arpas, salterios, panderos, flautas y címbalos.
6 Al llegar a la era de Nacón, los bueyes tropezaron y Uzá estiró la mano para sujetar el arca.
7 Pero el Señor se enojó muchísimo contra Uzá por haberse atrevido a tocar el arca, y allí mismo hirió a Uzá, y este cayó fulminado.
8 David se puso muy triste de que el Señor hubiera dado muerte a Uzá, y desde entonces aquel lugar se llama «Peres Uzá».
9 David tuvo entonces temor del Señor, y se preguntaba: «¿Cómo puedo pensar en llevarme el arca del Señor?»
10 Entonces ordenó que, en lugar de llevar el arca del Señor a la ciudad de David, la llevaran a la casa de Obed Edom, el de Gat.
11 Y así, el arca del Señor se quedó tres meses en la casa del guitita Obed Edom, y Dios lo bendijo a este y a toda su familia.
David lleva el arca a Jerusalén
(1 Cr 15.1—16.6)12 Cuando David se enteró de que por causa del arca el Señor había bendecido a Obed Edom y a toda su familia, lleno de alegría llevó el arca a la ciudad de David.
13 Apenas habían dado seis pasos los que llevaban el arca cuando David ofreció en sacrificio un buey y un carnero engordado.
14 Ataviado con un efod de lino, David danzaba con todas sus fuerzas delante del Señor.
15 Lo mismo hacía todo el pueblo de Israel que acompañaba el arca del Señor. Todo era júbilo y sonido de trompetas.
16 Cuando el arca del Señor llegó a la ciudad de David, Mical, la hija de Saúl, estaba mirando por la ventana, y al ver a David saltar y danzar delante del Señor, sintió por él un profundo desprecio.
17 El arca del Señor fue llevada a una tienda de campaña que David había ordenado levantar, y David ofreció al Señor sacrificios y ofrendas de reconciliación.
18 Luego de ofrecer los sacrificios y las ofrendas de reconciliación, David bendijo al pueblo en el nombre del Señor de los ejércitos,
19 y repartió entre el pueblo, hombres y mujeres, un pan, un trozo de carne y una torta de pasas. Después de eso, todo el pueblo se fue, cada uno a su casa.
20 David se dirigió entonces a su casa, para bendecirla, pero Mical salió a recibirlo y le dijo:
«¡Qué bien ha quedado el rey de Israel, al dejar al descubierto sus intimidades frente a las criadas de sus sirvientes! ¡Tal desfachatez solo es propia de un hombre cualquiera!»
21 Pero David le respondió:
«Sí, dancé; pero lo hice delante del Señor, porque él me eligió para reinar sobre su pueblo Israel. El Señor me ha preferido a mí, en lugar de tu padre y de toda tu familia.
22 Y aún podría rebajarme más, según tu opinión, pero a los ojos de las criadas que tú mencionas seré objeto de honra.»
23 Y Mical, la hija de Saúl, murió sin llegar a tener hijos de David.
