1 También les dijo: De cierto os digo que hay algunos de los que están aquí, que no gustarán la muerte hasta que hayan visto el reino de Dios venido con poder.
La transfiguración
(Mt. 17.1-13Lc. 9.28-36)2 Seis días después, Jesús tomó a Pedro, a Jacobo y a Juan, y los llevó aparte solos a un monte alto; y se transfiguró delante de ellos.
3 Y sus vestidos se volvieron resplandecientes, muy blancos, como la nieve, tanto que ningún lavador en la tierra los puede hacer tan blancos. 4 Y les apareció Elías con Moisés, que hablaban con Jesús. 5 Entonces Pedro dijo a Jesús: Maestro, bueno es para nosotros que estemos aquí; y hagamos tres enramadas, una para ti, otra para Moisés, y otra para Elías. 6 Porque no sabía lo que hablaba, pues estaban espantados. 7 Entonces vino una nube que les hizo sombra, y desde la nube una voz que decía: Este es mi Hijo amado;
a él oíd. 8 Y luego, cuando miraron, no vieron más a nadie consigo, sino a Jesús solo.
9 Y descendiendo ellos del monte, les mandó que a nadie dijesen lo que habían visto, sino cuando el Hijo del Hombre hubiese resucitado de los muertos. 10 Y guardaron la palabra entre sí, discutiendo qué sería aquello de resucitar de los muertos. 11 Y le preguntaron, diciendo: ¿Por qué dicen los escribas que es necesario que Elías venga primero?
12 Respondiendo él, les dijo: Elías a la verdad vendrá primero, y restaurará todas las cosas; ¿y cómo está escrito del Hijo del Hombre, que padezca mucho y sea tenido en nada? 13 Pero os digo que Elías ya vino, y le hicieron todo lo que quisieron, como está escrito de él.
Jesús sana a un muchacho endemoniado
(Mt. 17.14-21Lc. 9.37-43)14 Cuando llegó a donde estaban los discípulos, vio una gran multitud alrededor de ellos, y escribas que disputaban con ellos. 15 Y en seguida toda la gente, viéndole, se asombró, y corriendo a él, le saludaron. 16 Él les preguntó: ¿Qué disputáis con ellos? 17 Y respondiendo uno de la multitud, dijo: Maestro, traje a ti a mi hijo, que tiene un espíritu mudo, 18 el cual, dondequiera que le toma, le sacude; y echa espumarajos, y cruje los dientes, y se va secando; y dije a tus discípulos que lo echasen fuera, y no pudieron. 19 Y respondiendo él, les dijo: ¡Oh generación incrédula! ¿Hasta cuándo he de estar con vosotros? ¿Hasta cuándo os he de soportar? Traédmelo. 20 Y se lo trajeron; y cuando el espíritu vio a Jesús, sacudió con violencia al muchacho, quien cayendo en tierra se revolcaba, echando espumarajos. 21 Jesús preguntó al padre: ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que le sucede esto? Y él dijo: Desde niño. 22 Y muchas veces le echa en el fuego y en el agua, para matarle; pero si puedes hacer algo, ten misericordia de nosotros, y ayúdanos. 23 Jesús le dijo: Si puedes creer, al que cree todo le es posible. 24 E inmediatamente el padre del muchacho clamó y dijo: Creo; ayuda mi incredulidad. 25 Y cuando Jesús vio que la multitud se agolpaba, reprendió al espíritu inmundo, diciéndole: Espíritu mudo y sordo, yo te mando, sal de él, y no entres más en él. 26 Entonces el espíritu, clamando y sacudiéndole con violencia, salió; y él quedó como muerto, de modo que muchos decían: Está muerto. 27 Pero Jesús, tomándole de la mano, le enderezó; y se levantó. 28 Cuando él entró en casa, sus discípulos le preguntaron aparte: ¿Por qué nosotros no pudimos echarle fuera? 29 Y les dijo: Este género con nada puede salir, sino con oración y ayuno.
Jesús anuncia otra vez su muerte
(Mt. 17.22-23Lc. 9.43-45)30 Habiendo salido de allí, caminaron por Galilea; y no quería que nadie lo supiese. 31 Porque enseñaba a sus discípulos, y les decía: El Hijo del Hombre será entregado en manos de hombres, y le matarán; pero después de muerto, resucitará al tercer día. 32 Pero ellos no entendían esta palabra, y tenían miedo de preguntarle.
¿Quién es el mayor?
(Mt. 18.1-5Lc. 9.46-48)33 Y llegó a Capernaum; y cuando estuvo en casa, les preguntó: ¿Qué disputabais entre vosotros en el camino? 34 Mas ellos callaron; porque en el camino habían disputado entre sí, quién había de ser el mayor.
35 Entonces él se sentó y llamó a los doce, y les dijo: Si alguno quiere ser el primero, será el postrero de todos, y el servidor de todos.
36 Y tomó a un niño, y lo puso en medio de ellos; y tomándole en sus brazos, les dijo: 37 El que reciba en mi nombre a un niño como este, me recibe a mí; y el que a mí me recibe, no me recibe a mí sino al que me envió.
El que no es contra nosotros, por nosotros es
(Lc. 9.49-50)38 Juan le respondió diciendo: Maestro, hemos visto a uno que en tu nombre echaba fuera demonios, pero él no nos sigue; y se lo prohibimos, porque no nos seguía. 39 Pero Jesús dijo: No se lo prohibáis; porque ninguno hay que haga milagro en mi nombre, que luego pueda decir mal de mí. 40 Porque el que no es contra nosotros, por nosotros es.
41 Y cualquiera que os diere un vaso de agua en mi nombre, porque sois de Cristo, de cierto os digo que no perderá su recompensa.
Ocasiones de caer
(Mt. 18.6-9Lc. 17.1-2)42 Cualquiera que haga tropezar a uno de estos pequeñitos que creen en mí, mejor le fuera si se le atase una piedra de molino al cuello, y se le arrojase en el mar. 43 Si tu mano te fuere ocasión de caer, córtala; mejor te es entrar en la vida manco, que teniendo dos manos ir al infierno, al fuego que no puede ser apagado,
44 donde el gusano de ellos no muere, y el fuego nunca se apaga. 45 Y si tu pie te fuere ocasión de caer, córtalo; mejor te es entrar a la vida cojo, que teniendo dos pies ser echado en el infierno, al fuego que no puede ser apagado, 46 donde el gusano de ellos no muere, y el fuego nunca se apaga. 47 Y si tu ojo te fuere ocasión de caer, sácalo; mejor te es entrar en el reino de Dios con un ojo, que teniendo dos ojos ser echado al infierno,
48 donde el gusano de ellos no muere, y el fuego nunca se apaga.
49 Porque todos serán salados con fuego, y todo sacrificio será salado con sal. 50 Buena es la sal; mas si la sal se hace insípida, ¿con qué la sazonaréis?
Tened sal en vosotros mismos; y tened paz los unos con los otros.

The True Glory of Jesus
(Matthew 17.1-13Luke 9.28-36)2
Six days later Jesus took Peter, James, and John with him. They went up on a high mountain, where they could be alone. There in front of the disciples, Jesus was completely changed. 3 And his clothes became much whiter than any bleach on earth could make them. 4 Then Elijah and Moses appeared and were talking with Jesus.
5 Peter said to Jesus, “Teacher, it is good for us to be here! Let us make three shelters, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 6 But Peter and the others were terribly frightened, and he did not know what he was talking about.

The shadow of a cloud passed over and covered them. From the cloud a voice said, “This is my Son, and I love him. Listen to what he says!” 8 At once the disciples looked around, but they saw only Jesus.
9 As Jesus and his disciples were coming down the mountain, he told them not to say a word about what they had seen, until the Son of Man had been raised from death. 10 So they kept it to themselves. But they wondered what he meant by the words “raised from death.”

The disciples asked Jesus, “Don't the teachers of the Law of Moses say that Elijah must come before the Messiah does?”

Jesus answered:
Elijah certainly will come
to get everything ready. But don't the Scriptures also say that the Son of Man must suffer terribly and be rejected? 13 I can assure you that Elijah has already come. And people treated him just as they wanted to, as the Scriptures say they would.
Jesus Heals a Boy
(Matthew 17.14-20Luke 9.37-43a)14 When Jesus and his three disciples came back down, they saw a large crowd around the other disciples. The teachers of the Law of Moses were arguing with them.
15 The crowd was really surprised to see Jesus, and everyone hurried over to greet him.
16 Jesus asked, “What are you arguing about?”
17 Someone from the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought my son to you. A demon keeps him from talking. 18 Whenever the demon attacks my son, it throws him to the ground and makes him foam at the mouth and grit his teeth in pain. Then he becomes stiff. I asked your disciples to force out the demon, but they couldn't do it.”
19 Jesus said, “You people don't have any faith! How much longer must I be with you? Why do I have to put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”
20 They brought the boy, and as soon as the demon saw Jesus, it made the boy shake all over. He fell down and began rolling on the ground and foaming at the mouth.
21 Jesus asked the boy's father, “How long has he been like this?”
The man answered, “Ever since he was a child. 22 The demon has often tried to kill him by throwing him into a fire or into water. Please have pity and help us if you can!”
23 Jesus replied, “Why do you say ‘if you can’? Anything is possible for someone who has faith!”
24 At once the boy's father shouted, “I do have faith! Please help me to have even more.”
25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was gathering fast, he spoke sternly to the evil spirit that had kept the boy from speaking or hearing. He said, “I order you to come out of the boy! Don't ever bother him again.”
26 The spirit screamed and made the boy shake all over. Then it went out of him. The boy looked dead, and almost everyone said he was. 27 But Jesus took hold of his hand and helped him stand up.
28 After Jesus and the disciples had gone back home and were alone, they asked him, “Why couldn't we force out that demon?”
29 Jesus answered, “Only prayer can force out this kind of demon.”
Jesus Again Speaks about His Death
(Matthew 17.22Matthew 23Luke 9.43b-45)30 Jesus left with his disciples and started through Galilee. He did not want anyone to know about it, 31 because he was teaching the disciples that the Son of Man would be handed over to people who would kill him. But three days later he would rise to life. 32 The disciples did not understand what Jesus meant, and they were afraid to ask.
Who Is the Greatest?
(Matthew 18.1-5Luke 9.46-48)33 Jesus and his disciples went to his home in Capernaum. After they were inside the house, Jesus asked them, “What were you arguing about along the way?” 34
They had been arguing about which one of them was the greatest, and so they did not answer.

After Jesus sat down and told the twelve disciples to gather around him, he said, “If you want the place of honor, you must become a slave and serve others!”
36 Then Jesus asked a child to stand near him. He put his arm around the child and said, 37
“When you welcome even a child because of me, you welcome me. And when you welcome me, you welcome the one who sent me.”
For or against Jesus
(Luke 9.49Luke 50)38 John said, “Teacher, we saw a man using your name to force demons out of people. But he wasn't one of us, and we told him to stop.”
39 Jesus said to his disciples:
Don't stop him! No one who works miracles in my name will soon turn and say something bad about me. 40
Anyone who isn't against us is for us. 41
And anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name, just because you belong to me, will surely be rewarded.
Temptations To Sin
(Matthew 18.6-9Luke 17.1Luke 2)42 It will be terrible for people who cause even one of my little followers to sin. Those people would be better off thrown into the ocean with a heavy stone tied around their necks. 43-44
So if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off! You would be better off to go into life paralyzed than to have two hands and be thrown into the fires of hell that never go out.
45-46 If your foot causes you to sin, chop it off. You would be better off to go into life lame than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.
47
If your eye causes you to sin, get rid of it. You would be better off to go into God's kingdom with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell. 48
The worms there never die, and the fire never stops burning.
49 Everyone must be salted with fire.

Salt is good. But if it no longer tastes like salt, how can it be made salty again? Have salt among you and live at peace with each other.
