Jacob sirve a Labán por Raquel y Lea
1 Siguió luego Jacob su camino, y fue a la tierra de los orientales. 2 Y miró, y vio un pozo en el campo; y he aquí tres rebaños de ovejas que yacían cerca de él, porque de aquel pozo abrevaban los ganados; y había una gran piedra sobre la boca del pozo. 3 Y juntaban allí todos los rebaños; y revolvían la piedra de la boca del pozo, y abrevaban las ovejas, y volvían la piedra sobre la boca del pozo a su lugar. 4 Y les dijo Jacob: Hermanos míos, ¿de dónde sois? Y ellos respondieron: De Harán somos. 5 Él les dijo: ¿Conocéis a Labán hijo de Nacor? Y ellos dijeron: Sí, le conocemos. 6 Y él les dijo: ¿Está bien? Y ellos dijeron: Bien, y he aquí Raquel su hija viene con las ovejas. 7 Y él dijo: He aquí es aún muy de día; no es tiempo todavía de recoger el ganado; abrevad las ovejas, e id a apacentarlas. 8 Y ellos respondieron: No podemos, hasta que se junten todos los rebaños, y remuevan la piedra de la boca del pozo, para que abrevemos las ovejas.
9 Mientras él aún hablaba con ellos, Raquel vino con el rebaño de su padre, porque ella era la pastora. 10 Y sucedió que cuando Jacob vio a Raquel, hija de Labán hermano de su madre, y las ovejas de Labán el hermano de su madre, se acercó Jacob y removió la piedra de la boca del pozo, y abrevó el rebaño de Labán hermano de su madre. 11 Y Jacob besó a Raquel, y alzó su voz y lloró. 12 Y Jacob dijo a Raquel que él era hermano de su padre, y que era hijo de Rebeca; y ella corrió, y dio las nuevas a su padre. 13 Así que oyó Labán las nuevas de Jacob, hijo de su hermana, corrió a recibirlo, y lo abrazó, lo besó, y lo trajo a su casa; y él contó a Labán todas estas cosas. 14 Y Labán le dijo: Ciertamente hueso mío y carne mía eres. Y estuvo con él durante un mes.
15 Entonces dijo Labán a Jacob: ¿Por ser tú mi hermano, me servirás de balde? Dime cuál será tu salario. 16 Y Labán tenía dos hijas: el nombre de la mayor era Lea, y el nombre de la menor, Raquel. 17 Y los ojos de Lea eran delicados, pero Raquel era de lindo semblante y de hermoso parecer. 18 Y Jacob amó a Raquel, y dijo: Yo te serviré siete años por Raquel tu hija menor. 19 Y Labán respondió: Mejor es que te la dé a ti, y no que la dé a otro hombre; quédate conmigo. 20 Así sirvió Jacob por Raquel siete años; y le parecieron como pocos días, porque la amaba.
21 Entonces dijo Jacob a Labán: Dame mi mujer, porque mi tiempo se ha cumplido, para unirme a ella. 22 Entonces Labán juntó a todos los varones de aquel lugar, e hizo banquete. 23 Y sucedió que a la noche tomó a Lea su hija, y se la trajo; y él se llegó a ella. 24 Y dio Labán su sierva Zilpa a su hija Lea por criada. 25 Venida la mañana, he aquí que era Lea; y Jacob dijo a Labán: ¿Qué es esto que me has hecho? ¿No te he servido por Raquel? ¿Por qué, pues, me has engañado? 26 Y Labán respondió: No se hace así en nuestro lugar, que se dé la menor antes de la mayor. 27 Cumple la semana de esta, y se te dará también la otra, por el servicio que hagas conmigo otros siete años. 28 E hizo Jacob así, y cumplió la semana de aquella; y él le dio a Raquel su hija por mujer. 29 Y dio Labán a Raquel su hija su sierva Bilha por criada. 30 Y se llegó también a Raquel, y la amó también más que a Lea; y sirvió a Labán aún otros siete años.
Los hijos de Jacob
31 Y vio Jehová que Lea era menospreciada, y le dio hijos; pero Raquel era estéril. 32 Y concibió Lea, y dio a luz un hijo, y llamó su nombre Rubén,
porque dijo: Ha mirado Jehová mi aflicción; ahora, por tanto, me amará mi marido. 33 Concibió otra vez, y dio a luz un hijo, y dijo: Por cuanto oyó
Jehová que yo era menospreciada, me ha dado también este. Y llamó su nombre Simeón. 34 Y concibió otra vez, y dio a luz un hijo, y dijo: Ahora esta vez se unirá
mi marido conmigo, porque le he dado a luz tres hijos; por tanto, llamó su nombre Leví. 35 Concibió otra vez, y dio a luz un hijo, y dijo: Esta vez alabaré
a Jehová; por esto llamó su nombre Judá; y dejó de dar a luz.
Jacob Arrives at Laban's Home
1 As Jacob continued on his way to the east, 2 he looked out in a field and saw a well where shepherds took their sheep for water. Three flocks of sheep were lying around the well, which was covered with a large rock. 3 Shepherds would roll the rock away when all their sheep had gathered there. Then after the sheep had been watered, the shepherds would roll the rock back over the mouth of the well.
4 Jacob asked the shepherds, “Where are you from?”
“We're from Haran,” they answered.
5 Then he asked, “Do you know Nahor's grandson Laban?”
“Yes we do,” they replied.
6 “How is he?” Jacob asked.
“He's fine,” they answered. “And here comes his daughter Rachel with the sheep.”
7 Jacob told them, “Look, the sun is still high up in the sky, and it's too early to bring in the rest of the flocks. Water your sheep and take them back to the pasture.”
8 But they replied, “We can't do that until they all get here, and the rock has been rolled away from the well.”
9 While Jacob was still talking with the men, his cousin Rachel came up with her father's sheep. 10 When Jacob saw her and his uncle's sheep, he rolled the rock away and watered the sheep. 11 He then kissed Rachel and started crying because he was so happy. 12 He told her that he was the son of her aunt Rebekah, and she ran and told her father about him.
13 As soon as Laban heard the news, he ran out to meet Jacob. He hugged and kissed him and brought him to his home, where Jacob told him everything that had happened. 14 Laban said, “You are my nephew, and you are like one of my own family.”
Jacob Marries Leah and Rachel
After Jacob had been there for a month, 15 Laban said to him, “You shouldn't have to work without pay, just because you are a relative of mine. What do you want me to give you?”
16-17 Laban had two daughters. Leah was older than Rachel, but her eyes didn't sparkle,
while Rachel was beautiful and had a good figure. 18 Since Jacob was in love with Rachel, he answered, “If you will let me marry Rachel, I'll work seven years for you.”
19 Laban replied, “It's better for me to let you marry Rachel than for someone else to have her. So stay and work for me.” 20 Jacob worked seven years for Laban, but the time seemed like only a few days, because he loved Rachel so much.
21 Jacob said to Laban, “The time is up, and I want to marry Rachel now!” 22 So Laban gave a big feast and invited all their neighbors. 23 But that evening he brought Leah to Jacob, who married her and spent the night with her. 24 Laban also gave Zilpah to Leah as her servant woman.
25 The next morning Jacob found out that he had married Leah, and he asked Laban, “Why did you do this to me? Didn't I work to get Rachel? Why did you trick me?”
26 Laban replied, “In our country the older daughter must get married first. 27 After you spend this week
with Leah, you may also marry Rachel. But you will have to work for me another seven years.”
28-30 At the end of the week of celebration, Laban let Jacob marry Rachel, and he gave her his servant woman Bilhah. Jacob loved Rachel more than he did Leah, but he had to work another seven years for Laban.
31 The Lord knew that Jacob loved Rachel more than he did Leah, and so he gave children to Leah, but not to Rachel. 32 Leah gave birth to a son and named him Reuben.
Then she said, “The Lord has taken away my sorrow. Now my husband will love me more than he does Rachel.” 33 She had a second son and named him Simeon,
because she said, “The Lord has heard that my husband doesn't love me.” 34 When Leah's third son was born, she said, “Now my husband will hold me close.” So this son was named Levi.
35 She had one more son and named him Judah,
because she said, “I'll praise the Lord!”
