1 Слова Амоса, котрий був пастухом у Текої. Він бачив видіння про Ізраїль за днів Уззії, юдейського царя. Царем в Ізраїлі тоді був Єровоам, син Йоаша, – за два роки до землетрусу.
2 Він сказав: Як тільки Господь заговорить із Сіону, і з Єрусалима подасть Свій голос, зразу засумують улюблені пастухами пасовиська і висохнуть вершини Кармелю.
Покарання для Дамаска
3 Так говорить Господь: За три, навіть чотири, злочини Дамаска Я не пощаджу його, оскільки вони (його мешканці ) молотили Гілеад залізними зубцями .
4 Тому пошлю вогонь на дім Хазаїла, й він пожере укріплені палаци Бен-Гадада.
5 Я розіб’ю засуви Дамаска і знищу мешканців долини Авена, а також того, хто тримає скіпетр у Бет-Едені, і буде виселено арамійський народ до Кіра, – каже Господь.
Покарання для филистимців
6 Так говорить Господь: За три, навіть чотири, злочини Ґази не відміню покарання від неї, оскільки вони (його мешканці ) всіх підряд брали в полон, аби продати Едомові.
7 Тому Я пошлю вогонь на стіни Ґази, який пожере її укріплені палаци.
8 Я знищу мешканців Ашдода й того, хто тримає скіпетр в Ашкелоні, й простягну Свою руку на Екрон, аж поки не загинуть залишки филистимців, – говорить Владика, Господь.
Покарання для Тира
9 Так говорить Господь: За три, навіть чотири, злочини Тира не пощаджу його, оскільки вони (тирійці ) віддали Едомові всіх своїх полонених, не взявши навіть до уваги братерський договір.
10 Тому Я пошлю вогонь на стіни Тира, який пожере його укріплені палаци.
Покарання для Едому
11 Так говорить Господь: За три, навіть чотири, злочини Едому не відверну покарання від нього! Адже він з мечем у руках переслідував свого брата, тамуючи в собі усяке почуття милосердя. Він постійно палав гнівом, підживляючи свою несамовиту лють.
12 Тому Я пошлю вогонь на Теман, і він пожере укріплені палаци Боцри.
Покарання для аммонійців
13 Так говорить Господь: За три, навіть чотири, злочини аммонійців не відверну покарання від них! Адже вони розтинали вагітних гілеадійок, коли поширювали свої кордони!
14 Через те Я віддам стіни Рабби вогню, який пожере її укріплені палаци під бойові крики в день битви, під завивання вітру в час бурі.
15 Їхній цар піде у вигнання, а разом з ним і його можновладці, – говорить Господь.
1 These are the words of Amos, a shepherd from the town of Tekoa. Two years before the earthquake, when Uzziah was king of Judah and Jeroboam son of Jehoash was king of Israel, God revealed to Amos all these things about Israel.
2 Amos said,
“The Lord roars from Mount Zion;
his voice thunders from Jerusalem.
The pastures dry up,
and the grass on Mount Carmel turns brown.”

Syria
3 The Lord says, “The people of Damascus have sinned again and again, and for this I will certainly punish them. They treated the people of Gilead with savage cruelty. 4 So I will send fire upon the palace built by King Hazael and I will burn down the fortresses of King Benhadad. 5 I will smash the city gates of Damascus and remove the inhabitants of Aven Valley and the ruler of Betheden. The people of Syria will be taken away as prisoners to the land of Kir.”
Philistia
6 The Lord says, “The people of Gaza have sinned again and again, and for this I will certainly punish them. They carried off a whole nation and sold them as slaves to the people of Edom. 7 So I will send fire upon the city walls of Gaza and burn down its fortresses. 8 I will remove the rulers of the cities of Ashdod and Ashkelon. I will punish the city of Ekron, and all the Philistines who are left will die.”
Tyre
9 The Lord says, “The people of Tyre have sinned again and again, and for this I will certainly punish them. They carried off a whole nation into exile in the land of Edom, and did not keep the treaty of friendship they had made. 10 So I will send fire upon the city walls of Tyre and burn down its fortresses.”
Edom
11 The Lord says, “The people of Edom have sinned again and again, and for this I will certainly punish them. They hunted down their relatives, the Israelites, and showed them no mercy. Their anger had no limits, and they never let it die. 12 So I will send fire upon the city of Teman and burn down the fortresses of Bozrah.”
Ammon
13 The Lord says, “The people of Ammon have sinned again and again, and for this I will certainly punish them. In their wars for more territory they even ripped open pregnant women in Gilead. 14 So I will send fire upon the city walls of Rabbah and burn down its fortresses. Then there will be shouts on the day of battle, and the fighting will rage like a storm. 15 Their king and his officers will go into exile.”
